Dag Ingebrigtsen's band The Kids just came out with a new album "Hits from Kids", and it features the old classic Kids songs, along with *shudders* one new track. "kyss mæ godnatt" ... It's a song Rune Rudberg would have refused... Smile Nothing bad about Dag Ingebrigtsen as a songwriter, he have had his moments. Just go to a The Kids gig and see how the audience sing along with every friggin' song.

For those who don't know, The Kids features Torstein Flakne, the Stage Dolls front and axeman.

Well, Dimmur Borgir has made it to 6th on the same list, and even Dolly Parton is above The Kids and TNT. It's a weird world, huh ?

The only album I've got that's on that list above TNT is Jonas Fjeld. But I'm an old fart who like Jonas' mellow music from time to time... Wink

That said, if you look at how other TNT albums have made it on the VG topp 40 list, you see something interesting.

* All The Way To The Sun, 2 weeks 2005, #29 highest
* Firefly, 4 weeks 1997, #16 highest
* Intuition, 6 weeks 1989, #3 Highest
* Knights Of The New Thunder, 7 weeks1984, #9 highest
* My Religion, 4 weeks 2004, #14 highest
* Realized Fantasies, 6 weeks 1992, #5 highest
* Tell No Tales, 19 weeks 1987, #1 highest
* The Big Bang, 7 weeks 2003, #5 highest
* The New Territory, 2 weeks 2007, #11 highest
* TNT, 1 week 1983, #16 highest
* Transistor, 1 week 1999, #29 highest

After two weeks in this chart it has already beaten albums like Transistor, Firefly, All the Way to the Sun and My Religion. The New Territory has peaked at 11, and it's hard to say if they can sustain the same sales figures for long. One can hope, but to be realistic they will probably fade out of this list in a few weeks.

I think this is good proof to my claim that the band has made the best TNT album of this millenium. (The Big Bang of course is a compilation)

i see the numbers, but its not really fair to compare them based on that list. first of all i think cd sales is falling very fast in general. so a top spot at topp 40 does not mean it has sold very well, it just says it has sold most copies that week, at stores that are registered as topp40 stores. gas stations for example are not registered. then you have to look at the competiton the albums had. i doubt dimmu borgir sell that much. they are very far from mainstream you know Smile i would love to see the actual sale rates, it gives a much more realistic view. 100% realistic that is.

You starting pulling in VG topp 40... Wink

I know (from looking at their site that :
- Norges offisielle hitliste er basert på siste ukes salg hos ca. 100 musikkforhandlere over hele landet.
(Norway's official hit list is based on last weeks sales at appx 100 music stores all over the country.)

If I remember correctly it was different before, where the list was based on records sent to the stores. So Dimmu Borgir did outsell Dolly Parton this week. Guess we have to live with the trauma. Wink I hope to see Dimmu at SRF in a couple of weeks tough. I have little hopes, but having survived Venom last year, I think I can cope with a few Norwegian death-metallers... I think the description Janne Stark had was very fitting: Take all the instruments and amps you can find crank them up max volume and to 11, and chuck it all in a cement mixer. Start the cement mixer. That was Venom when they kicked off.

The top places in the chart are populated by records that sell well that week. And your point is proven by the fact that very few entries has more than 10 weeks on the chart. New releases often come in hard, and pull out again fast. Twisted Evil

Of course it isn't fair to compare the subjective opinion of a record based on their record sales - to take just the sales in Norway doubly so Smile

PeSt

PS: One should never underestimate the power of the gas station sales channel.

if i understand you correctly then we agree totally! Smile

im not totally sure how the topp40 list works, but i do think that all artists have a hard time selling like they did before.

and yes. the gas stations sell very well from what i have heard. if they had been registered for the vg-list, then the list would be almost filled with so called "danseband" (i dont know how to describe that phenomen to you foregners, but its basically what old people listen to while on camping Laughing Laughing Laughing

Dimmu Borgir got a record company working hard for the band.

That is one of the reasons DB is the most selling Norwegian band in the world right now.
