Jagg: Don't we all ... Wink
I use a Line6 UX2 with the gold bundle, so my little gadget has all the amps, cabinets, stomp boxes and effects that I desire. Too many, in fact, as sitting there adjusting the sounds is just too much fun... Smile

Welcome, freakguitar. Awesome to see another guitar player join the forums. Gary Moore...GREAT taste. I'm playing a LOT of Gary Moore (Victims era, of course) right now. What a great guitarist.

Cheers,

TNT had one Japanese video release in the eighties, called "Forever Shine On," but it's not all that hot. There's better stuff floating around out there, if you look hard for it. I have two pro-shot Gary Moore videos, plus some live tv appearances. Man, that guy could play...and with attitude. John Norum (another fave) has some serious Gary Moore influence.

Sweden hasn't done all that bad guitarist-wise. Some of the more unknown heroes of mine are:

Clas Yngström - Sky High
Blues rock guitarist. He does Hendrix so well that Jimmy lites up another one and smiles.

Thomas G:son - Masquerade
It's so Ronni influenced it's sick. Their shocking first album was more TNT than TNT.

Pär Edwardsson - Biscaya
The first album by Biscaya sent shockwaves through the music community I was part of. The opening track Howl in the Sky is still one of my favourite keyboard-guitar duel songs. And who had the balls to put an anthem on their debut album? Biscaya. Check it out if you can.

Not going to mention Norum or Malmsteen or guitarists from more known bands. Their merits stands for themselves.

I believe that's the same Thomas G:son. He's great on the first Masquerade release (PeSt mentioned), but it goes downhill from there. Besides Norum, other Swedish guitar heroes I like are:

Jan Granwick (Glory, Clockwise): Damn, that guy is freakin' good!! Awesome technique and phrasing...And he works with the amazing Goran Edman a lot. Jan Granwick seems to have fallen off the map, currently residing on the Where Are They Now? list.

Roine Stolt (Flower Kings, Karmakanic, Kaipa, Transatlantic): My fave progressive rock guitarist. Great songwriter, and he gives everything a nice retro psychedelic flair that I really dig.

Benny Jansson (Ride the Sky, XSavior, Tears Of Anger, Snake Charmer, solo, etc.): This guy is scary. He very deftly combines jazz-fusion chops with progressive rock and metal. His tone and playing style is very influenced by Allan Holdsworth. He's definitely one of the best (overall) I've ever heard come out of Sweden (and I'm a huge fan of all melodic Scandinavian rock and metal).

Mattias "IA" Eklundh (Freak Kitchen, solo): Steve Vai meets Frank Zappa, yet he still has his own unique style and identity. Mattias is way cool on all fronts. We got the rare privelege of attending a guitar seminar by this wizard at Berklee School of Music in Boston (about 2 hours away) a couple of years ago. He hung w/everyone, was very (very, very, very) funny and engaging, instantly likeable (did I mention great sense of humour?), and he let me video-tape the clinic. Very Happy Mattias is a true gem of Sweden.

It's the same guy. Only shows how downhill it went.

Oh yeah...More Swedish greats.

Kee Marcello (Europe, Red Fun, etc.): I'm not overly crazy about Europe's Out Of This World release, songwise, but the lead playing on there is really great. However, the Prisoners In Paradise is totally rocking. Great songs, great riffs, great leads. In fact, I don't think Norum did anything that good until he went out on his own (then he burned hardcore). PIP is easily my fave Europe release, and the only one I own (besides the live dvds w/Norum). I've heard some of his post-Europe work, and he still rocks, but I'm not too familiar really.

Pontus Norgren (Great King Rat, Humanimal, the Poodles, Jekyll & Hyde, etc.): Norgren reminds me a lot of Norum when he's blazing. He's a great example of underplaying, but when he lets loose...Great King Rat was like Sweden's answer to Tesla; cool stuff (great vocals from Leif Sundin). I absolutely love the two discs from the Poodles.

Magnus Karlsson (Last Tribe, Midnight Sun, Starbreaker, Allen/Lande): Killer guitarist. I remember the first time I put the first Last Tribe release on for a spin. Then, Midnight Sun's final disc, with Jakob Samuels of the Poodles on vocals (the Poodles even redid the Midnight Sun song Metal Will Stand Tall). I'm sure everyone's familiar w/his work w/former Tekrø co-writers.

JOHNNY ÖHLIN (Nation, Dionysus): When you visit the Dionysus website and scan the members page, Johnny lists TNT's "Intuition" first on his Top 5 Favorite Albums. No surprise, since the two Nation albums combine killer guitar tone, phenomenal playing, and great hooks. He had a knack for mixing neo-classical ideas with great catchy hooks and riffs. Unfortunately, he lost all that with the more aggressive outfit Dionysus. Still great technically, but...something was lost.
